Willy Roberts of Islamorada, Florida, began building his custom wooden flats skiffs in the late 1950s. Roberts¿ boats led to the development of fiberglass flats skiffs by companies like Hewes Boats, Fiber Craft and Maverick Boats in the 1960s and early 1970s.
